31 Candidates Qualify for FAM Executive Committee Seats

The race for the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Executive Committee seats is heating up, with 31 candidates successfully passing the qualification screening for the remaining 2025-2029 term. These contenders received official confirmation emails from the FAM election secretariat, signifying they have cleared all necessary checks.

The vetting process involved major agencies such as the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (SPRM), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), and the Malaysian Department of Insolvency. This ensures only eligible individuals can compete for leadership positions.

This development marks a significant moment as FAM undergoes organizational restructuring, including a reduction in leadership seats. Among the qualified candidates is Mohd Firdaus Mohamed, President of the Malay Football Association of Malaysia (PBMM), who is vying for the First Vice President position. He expressed relief upon receiving confirmation, viewing it as a crucial first step to restore the credibility of Malaysian football's governing body.

Another candidate, Afizal Abu Othman, running for Third Vice President, also confirmed his eligibility. He described the opportunity as a significant trust that requires great responsibility. Despite being relatively new to football politics, Afizal, the Director of the Sports Center at the University of Malaya, believes his over two decades of experience in sports development and organizational management will be valuable. "I hope FAM affiliates will give me a chance to be in FAM based on the experience I have over two decades of dedication in football and university sports development and organizational management," he said.
