31 years after graduation, Eric Moore alumni return to build gate and repaint school fence

Thirty-one years after leaving Eric Moore High School in Surulere, Lagos, the Class of 1995 returned with a practical thank-you: a new school gate and a freshly painted perimeter fence.

The project was carried out by the Eric Moore High School Old Students Association Class of 1995 and formally presented to the school on Friday. Association President Lekan Taiwo said the gesture recognized the institution’s role in shaping the graduates’ lives. “We are students of this school. We graduated about 31 years ago and we came back to say thank you to the school, and then donated this project to the school,” he said.

The alumni group also pledged further support for students facing financial difficulties. Taiwo said the association planned to launch more projects on October 24, including help for students unable to pay registration fees for National Examinations Council examinations.

Receiving the donation, the principals of the senior and junior high schools, Tokunbo Ayemo and Issac Akinloye, praised the old students and other supporters. Akinloye said a new building completed by the Lagos State Government had eased years of disruption caused by accommodation problems. “The new building is fantastic. It comes at the time it is needed because the school has suffered a lot from moving from one school to another because of building problems,” he said.

The school said the donated gate and painted fence had improved its appearance, security and overall image. It described the work as a lasting reminder of the continued care and generosity of former students.
