37 Photojournalists Honored at Prestigious Imperial Appreciation Awards in Dhaka

The vibrant field of photojournalism in Bangladesh and beyond was celebrated yesterday at the prestigious Imperial Photojournalist Appreciation Award 2026, held at the Imperial Hotel International in Dhaka. This significant event recognized the outstanding contributions of 37 photojournalists, highlighting their dedication to capturing crucial moments and telling compelling stories through their lenses.

Among the distinguished honorees were Rashed Shumon and Firoz Ahmed from The Daily Star, underscoring the newspaper's commitment to impactful visual storytelling. The ceremony also extended its recognition to 10 talented photojournalists from Nepal, fostering a spirit of regional collaboration and appreciation for photographic excellence across borders.

A particularly notable moment was the special award presented to veteran Reuters photographer Rafiqul Rahman, acknowledging his remarkable 57-year career. His enduring commitment serves as an inspiration to aspiring and established photojournalists alike, embodying the perseverance and skill required in this demanding profession.

The event, graced by State Minister for Social Welfare Farzana Sharmin as the chief guest, also saw the presence of esteemed figures including the Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, and prominent media personalities. The gathering served not only as an awards ceremony but also as a platform for networking and cultural exchange within the journalistic community, followed by a cultural program and dinner.
