3rd Daejeon Queer Culture Festival Concludes Peacefully

The 3rd Daejeon Queer Culture Festival concluded successfully and peacefully on June 25th in the Soje-dong area of Dong-gu, Daejeon. Under the vibrant slogan 'Love is You - Love, Maximum Volume!', the event saw participation from 42 diverse organizations, including youth groups, human rights advocates, and community collectives.

We are gathered here to be each other's blessings. We have come to bless each other as beings with equal and inherent dignity, regardless of the faith or belief each of us follows.

In a powerful declaration, the co-chairs of the organizing committee drew parallels between the recent factory fire tragedy and a wolf's escape from the zoo, using these events to question a society that prioritizes efficiency and cost over life and safety. They asserted that a society that tolerates discrimination and hatred is unsustainable, framing the Queer Culture Festival not just as a celebration for sexual minorities, but as a crucial demand for the right to respect for all residents, fostering a society where humans and non-human animals can coexist peacefully.

The festival also featured a blessing ceremony by religious figures who gathered to express mutual support and acknowledge the inherent dignity of every individual, regardless of their faith. Their prayers for love, friendship, and solidarity resonated throughout the event, highlighting a message of unity and shared humanity.

Following the main events, participants joyfully marched through the streets of Daejeon, from Soje-dong to Eunhaeng-dong and then to Daeheung-dong, spreading a message of peace and inclusivity. This year's festival, like those before it, served as a vital platform for advocating for a more just and equitable society in Daejeon.
