54th Montgolfiade in Warendorf celebrates highlight with balloon glow

Warendorf in Germany's Münsterland region became a hub for ballooning enthusiasts during the 54th Montgolfiade this past weekend.

Participants traveled from across Germany, including cities like Berlin, Kiel, and Frankfurt, to attend the event organized by the Freiballonsportverein Münster (Münster Free Balloon Sports Club).

The festival's main attraction was the "Ballonglühen" on Saturday evening. Thirteen pilots showcased their hot air balloons by setting them up on the ground and igniting their gas burners, transforming the balloon envelopes into illuminated "lampshades."

Beyond the ground display, the Montgolfiade featured several balloon flights throughout the weekend, some of which included passengers. A sporting competition was also part of the program, where teams completed tasks to earn points.

Event manager Nils Boelmann reported that the festival was particularly successful this year due to consistently dry and stable weather conditions. "If we can do every flight and also the balloon glow, then all highlights are covered," he stated, emphasizing the importance of good weather for ballooning activities.
