55 Malaysians Unaccounted for in Nepal After Flash Floods

Fifty-five Malaysian nationals in Nepal are currently unaccounted for following devastating flash floods in the Rasuwa district. The severe weather has crippled communication networks and power supplies, complicating efforts to ascertain the well-being of those affected.

Wisma Putra, Malaysia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, reported that local authorities have confirmed extensive damage to critical infrastructure. Roads, bridges, and highways have been severely impacted, hindering immediate access and communication. As a result, there has been no official confirmation of any Malaysian casualties.

In response, the Malaysian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has activated its Operations Room in Putrajaya to coordinate information and establish direct communication channels for affected Malaysians and their families. An officer from the High Commission of Malaysia in Dhaka, Bangladesh, has also been deployed to assist the Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu.

The Malaysian Embassy in Kathmandu is actively liaising with Nepalese authorities, search and rescue teams, the Nepal Tourism Board, travel agencies, and major hospitals in Kathmandu to confirm the safety and whereabouts of the missing citizens. The ministry extended its condolences to the government and people of Nepal, particularly the victims' families.
