86-Year-Old Lithuanian Actor Continues Active Career, Driven by Passion

At 86, Lithuanian theater veteran Saulius Sipaitis remains a dedicated presence at the Youth Theatre, demonstrating a passion for his craft that extends beyond financial necessity. He works alongside both seasoned and young colleagues, fostering a collaborative environment where his primary focus is always the work itself.

Sipaitis, who celebrated his birthday on June 18, has never considered retirement. He has successfully navigated changes in theater leadership and evolving generations of actors, finding common ground through his numerous stage productions, including the 2025 spring premiere "Keliaujantys," where he performed original songs. Unlike some older actors who might disdain television, Sipaitis has appeared in popular Lithuanian series like "Anastasija" and "Gyvenimo receptai."

Born into a family of artists – his father and mother were actors, and his grandmother a singer who performed with Fyodor Chaliapin – Sipaitis inherited a strong theatrical ethic. He finds pretentiousness amusing and believes in continuous self-improvement through his work. He also lends his voice to Indian television series, a task he finds enjoyable, and participates in film shoots when opportunities arise, valuing the camaraderie with fellow actors.

Interestingly, Sipaitis initially aspired to be an archaeologist. He narrowly missed admission to Vilnius University's archaeology program due to high competition. Following his father's advice, he enrolled in a three-year cultural director program at the Kaunas Juozas Gruodis Conservatory. Though he had grown up around theater, accompanying his parents on tour, he had never performed on stage until his conservatory studies led him down the path of acting.
