A Ukrainian and a Russian robbed a priest in a Capital mall. They left him without his bag with over 80,000 lei and tried to flee the country

A shocking incident has occurred in the heart of the capital, where a priest from Teleorman fell victim to a brazen theft within a bustling shopping center. The clergyman was deprived of a significant sum of money, along with his personal documents and bank cards, in what appears to be a carefully orchestrated crime.

The priest had traveled to Bucharest specifically to purchase essential goods for individuals in need. It was during his visit to a hypermarket in Sector 6 that the theft took place. The stolen bag contained a substantial amount of cash: 60,000 lei, $3,800, and approximately €400.

Authorities were quickly alerted, and an investigation was launched. Surveillance footage from the shopping center provided crucial clues, leading police to identify two foreign nationals – a Russian and a Ukrainian – as the prime suspects. One suspect, aged 56, allegedly snatched the bag while the priest was distracted, while his accomplice, aged 52, waited in the parking lot to facilitate a swift escape.

Recognizing the urgency of the situation and the suspects' potential to flee the country, police initiated a swift pursuit. Their efforts paid off when the suspects' vehicle was intercepted on the A1 highway, heading towards Deva. The stolen money was recovered, and the priest's belongings were returned, bringing a measure of relief to the victim and demonstrating the effectiveness of the police response.
