Moldovan Arrested for Burglarizing Romanian Vacation Homes

A resident of the Republic of Moldova has been apprehended and detained for 30 days in Romania after a string of burglaries targeting vacation homes. The 31-year-old suspect is accused of unlawfully occupying several properties in Buzău County, entering empty homes, and residing there for short periods while stealing food, clothing, and other valuables. This pattern of behavior, which included consuming food and using household amenities, came to light when three locals reported the incidents in late March. The estimated damage amounts to approximately 2,000 lei. Authorities, with the assistance of police in Bacău, apprehended the suspect as he was allegedly heading back to Moldova, having also targeted homes in that region. This incident highlights the challenges faced by law enforcement in cross-border crime and the vulnerability of unoccupied properties.
