A week of global arts events brings film, music and contemporary art to audiences

Film, music, theater, dance and contemporary art events will fill cultural calendars in cities around the world this week.

At the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, Luca Guadagnino will discuss his experience of Italian cinema, while Ellen Burstyn will take part in a conversation about her acting career. The Golden Lion will be awarded at a ceremony on September 12.

In London, the BBC Proms enters its final week at the Royal Albert Hall. The festival will close on September 12 with the traditional Last Night of the Proms, featuring works including Edward Elgar’s “Pomp and Circumstance” and Thomas Arne’s “Rule, Britannia!” performed with the choir and audience.

Switzerland’s Lucerne Festival will complete its spring edition from September 7 to 13. Organized around the 2026 theme “American Dreams,” the program brings classical symphonic repertoire together with jazz, musical theater and avant-garde sounds. Scheduled performances include concerts by the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Berlin Radio Choir, the Czech Philharmonic, Mahler Chamber Orchestra with pianist Yuja Wang, and Chineke! Orchestra with the Cape Town Opera Vocal Ensemble in a closing performance of George Gershwin’s “Porgy and Bess.”

Asia’s contemporary art scene will feature Tokyo Gendai in Yokohama from September 11 to 13, bringing galleries, new-media installations and collectors to the PACIFICO exhibition venue. At the Gwangju Biennale in South Korea, seven artists are working with seven art spaces. Turkish artist İnci Eviner will present two video works, “The Care of Modern Ruin” and “National Fitness.”

In the United Arab Emirates, Dubai Opera will mark its 10th anniversary with a gala on September 11 featuring international opera stars and symphony orchestras. Indian American singer Jasmine Sandlas will perform in Dubai on September 13 as part of her “The Dream Girl Tour,” while the 2026 Middle East Film & Comic Con will bring together popular culture, comics, film and animation.
