Abandoned baby in Trenggalek receives care; adoption awaits police findings

A baby boy, found abandoned in Trenggalek, East Java, is now under the care of the Sidoarjo Social Services Protection and Assistance Unit for Toddlers (UPT PPSAB). The child, who previously received medical attention at the dr Soedomo Trenggalek Regional General Hospital, has been transferred to the UPT PPSAB facility.

Two prospective adoptive parents have already expressed interest in caring for the infant. However, the adoption process cannot proceed immediately. Authorities are awaiting the completion of police investigations to locate the child's biological parents or extended family. If a biological family member is found and is willing and able to provide care, they will be given priority according to child protection regulations.

"The adoption process can only be carried out after all investigation stages are completed and no family members file for custody," stated Pramestiya Safitri, a social worker with UPT PPSAB Sidoarjo. She added that the unit is also monitoring the baby's health and completing necessary administrative requirements before the child can be officially placed for adoption.

Based on similar cases, Pramestiya estimates that the adoption process typically concludes when the child is around seven to eight months old. Aspiring adoptive parents must meet stringent requirements. These include being married for at least five years, falling within the age range of 30 to 55, having a maximum of one existing child, demonstrating adequate economic and social conditions, sharing the same religion as the child, and residing in East Java. Ideally, UPT PPSAB hopes that adoptive parents will also be from the baby's region of origin, provided they meet all other criteria.
