Abia APC gives Kalu, Nkwonta 14-day ultimatum over Otti comments

The Abia State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has demanded an apology from Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and House of Representatives member Chief Chris Nkwonta within 14 days. The party accuses the lawmakers of anti-party conduct for allegedly supporting the re-election of Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party in the 2027 governorship election.

According to a communiqué issued after a State Working Committee (SWC) meeting, the APC cited comments made by Kalu during a television interview, where he reportedly suggested Otti would win in 2027. Nkwonta is also accused of stating he would vote for Otti's re-election during the First Lady's visit to Akwete. The party views these statements as unacceptable, especially as the APC prepares to contest the upcoming governorship election.

The SWC, led by state Chairman Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, referenced Article 21.2 (11) of the APC Constitution, which outlines disciplinary measures for conduct inimical to the party's interests. The communiqué, signed by 17 SWC members, states that the apologies must demonstrate commitment to the party, its constitution, and its decision to field its own candidates.

The party warned that non-compliance would result in the formation of a disciplinary committee to investigate the statements and recommend further action. The SWC "unanimously and unequivocally" condemned the alleged remarks, expressing concern that they could undermine the confidence of APC members and supporters while openly supporting a rival party.
