Osun Governor demands arrest of senator over alleged killing threat

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has formally requested the Inspector-General of Police to arrest and prosecute Senator Francis Fadahunsi, who represents the Osun East Senatorial District. The governor's demand stems from allegations that Fadahunsi issued death threats against members of the Accord Party.

A video circulating on social media purportedly shows Senator Fadahunsi addressing All Progressives Congress supporters who were protesting alleged killings of their party members in Ilesa. In the footage, the senator is alleged to have urged APC supporters to target Accord Party members wherever they might be found. Governor Adeleke expressed grave concern over what he described as security operations specifically targeting Accord Party leaders and supporters in the lead-up to the August 15 governorship election.

Adeleke stated that the viral video clearly shows Fadahunsi inciting violence, even suggesting that if Accord Party leaders could not be found, their wives and children should be targeted. The governor has alerted the Inspector-General of Police, who he says has confirmed the video's existence and assured him that action will be taken. "This is now beyond politics. This is now a national security threat that requires the attention of Mr President," Adeleke declared.

Furthermore, Governor Adeleke urged the police and the Department of State Services to investigate Fadahunsi for alleged incitement to violence against the people of Ijesaland and Osun State. He also demanded an immediate halt to what he termed "illegal operations" by the Intelligence Response Team, alleging that its operatives have been unjustly arresting Accord Party leaders across various local government areas. Adeleke implored the Inspector-General of Police and other security agencies to uphold due process and ensure fair policing practices before, during, and after the upcoming governorship election.
