Abinader highlights common ground with Honduras on security and migration

The Dominican Republic and Honduras ended a presidential visit with a shared regional agenda focused on security, migration and Haiti, according to Dominican President Luis Abinader.

Abinader described Honduran President Nasry Asfura’s official visit as positive. The two leaders reviewed bilateral relations and discussed areas where their governments could work together.

On many of these issues, we share a fairly close vision and understand that our countries can do more by working together.

The regional issues included security, democracy, migration, the impact of sargassum and the situation in Haiti. Abinader said the countries share a closely aligned view on many of those matters, but he gave no further details about the specific proposals discussed on Haiti.

The visit produced a work agenda for the coming months. Abinader said the governments agreed to strengthen bilateral dialogue and create mechanisms to turn good political relations into cooperation, exchanges and concrete opportunities. He also said Honduras could count on the Dominican Republic as “a friendly country and a partner willing to work.”
