Leonel Fernández touts Fuerza del Pueblo’s growth

Leonel Fernández used provincial meetings in La Vega and Bonao to present Fuerza del Pueblo as a party that has rapidly expanded across the Dominican Republic.

The former president and party leader said the organization now has a presence in all 32 provinces, 162 municipalities and 270 municipal districts, along with structures abroad. He said the territorial expansion reflects the party’s progress since its founding six years ago.

Fernández also pointed to the party’s electoral performance. He recalled that Fuerza del Pueblo won about 5% of the vote in the 2020 elections, only months after its creation, and approximately 30% in 2024. He said the party now polls above 40% even though it has not begun a campaign.

Today we are in all 32 provinces, in the 162 municipalities and in the 270 municipal districts. Fuerza del Pueblo has established itself across the territory of the Republic.

The meetings took place at the Oratorio Centro Juvenil Santo Domingo Savio in La Vega and the Cooperativa San Antonio in Bonao, in Monseñor Nouel province. The organization said attendance exceeded 97% of the leaders invited to both gatherings.

Fernández said the party is working toward five national goals covering organization, electoral affairs, training, finance and communications. The meetings form part of a wider programme to assess local leadership and reinforce Fuerza del Pueblo’s national structure.

Everything is a process, it is gradual. The first time, in 2020, just five months after we started, we got 5%; well, that was what we could do. But in 2024, roughly speaking, we got 30%, and we have not started a campaign and we are above 40%. The process is moving forward.
