Abiodun saves Buhari Estate from forfeiture, delivers 108 homes

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has intervened to rescue the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate in Abeokuta from potential forfeiture, transforming the stalled project into a 108-unit residential community. The estate is set to be commissioned by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Tuesday.

The project, which the Abiodun administration inherited with only infrastructure awarded and one show building completed, faced legal challenges over contractor payments. The state government stepped in, resolved the dispute out of court, and secured its interest in the property. This intervention prevented forfeiture and paved the way for the estate's completion.

Adopting a Public-Private Partnership model, the administration provided land and infrastructure, while private developers managed the construction and sale of housing units. The result is the PMB Estate, offering 108 fully detached and semi-detached duplexes with modern designs and comprehensive amenities, including road networks, street lighting, green areas, water supply, waste management, a sports center, and 24-hour power within a secure, gated environment.

Governor Abiodun highlighted the project as a demonstration of his administration's commitment to safeguarding public investments and completing inherited projects. "This project is part of our administration’s commitment to providing quality and affordable housing for different categories of residents, while ensuring that government projects inherited from previous administrations are completed rather than abandoned," he stated. The governor views the PMB Estate as a blueprint for similar public-private housing developments across Ogun State. Its strategic location offers convenient access to key institutional, commercial, and transportation hubs.
