Action demanded over water leaks in tunnels

A petition signed by around 400 residents and users of the Héðinsfjörður Tunnels calls for urgent action from the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration (Vegagerðin) to resolve persistent water leakage issues. The appeal specifically targets the Ólafsfjörður section of the tunnels, which has been affected by this problem for years.

The initiative, documented in the minutes of the Fjallabyggð municipal council meeting on August 13, highlights the community's concern over the ongoing water ingress. Hjördís Hjörleifsdóttir, one of the organizers of the signature collection, presented the list of signatories to the council's chairman.

Following the presentation, the Fjallabyggð mayor, Þórir Hákonarson, has been tasked with arranging a formal meeting. This meeting will bring together representatives from the municipality and Vegagerðin to officially address the water leakage problem within the Héðinsfjörður Tunnels.
