Actor Sam Neill died of pneumonia

The family of acclaimed actor Sam Neill has confirmed that the "Jurassic Park" star died of pneumonia at the age of 78. The announcement was made to address "inaccuracies and simply false claims" circulating in the media regarding the cause of his death.

Neill, who publicly disclosed his battle with aggressive leukemia in 2022, had undergone successful treatments including chemotherapy and CAR-T cell therapy. While his family had previously stated he did not die of cancer, his former partner, journalist Laura Tingle, noted that the prolonged cancer treatments had significantly weakened him over the years.

Despite his health struggles, Neill remained active, completing four film productions in the past year, which are slated for release in the coming months. He lived a private life, and his family has chosen to honor his wishes by holding a funeral ceremony on his farm in New Zealand, attended only by close family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to organizations that were important to Neill.
