Afro-Mexican Woman Denounces Alleged Racism, Theft Accusation at Liverpool Store

A video shared on TikTok has ignited public anger over an alleged incident of racial profiling at a Liverpool department store in Mexico City's Perisur mall. The young Afro-Mexican woman, identified as Nathalie, claims a security guard followed her throughout the store and later accused her of attempting to steal an item.

Nathalie began recording when she noticed the guard's persistent attention. When confronted and accused of theft, she opened her backpack and displayed all her belongings, including books, a pencil case, and headphones, to prove her innocence. The security guard, identified as "Marina," reportedly retreated without apology after the woman's belongings were checked.

Expressing her frustration online, Nathalie stated that the guard's actions were based on her skin color and appearance. She demanded an apology from the store and requested to speak with the guard's supervisor to review surveillance footage. The retail chain has not yet issued a statement regarding the incident. However, Nathalie has reportedly sought assistance from the Council for the Prevention and Elimination of Discrimination in Mexico City (COPRED).
