After a strong start at the World Championship, the Lithuanian women's team loses to one of the favorites

The Lithuanian women's 3x3 basketball team suffered a defeat against France in their second World Championship match. France, considered one of the tournament favorites, secured a victory over the Lithuanian squad.

This loss follows Lithuania's strong opening performance, where they achieved a dramatic 19-17 win against Canada, a team that finished on the podium last year. In another surprising result, France had previously lost to Japan with a score of 13-16.

Lithuania is competing in Group D alongside Ukraine and Japan, with whom they will play on Thursday, June 4. The team that finishes first in the group will advance directly to the quarterfinals, while second and third-place teams will compete in a preliminary playoff round.

This is Lithuania's third appearance at the World Championship after a year's break. Their best previous result was fourth place in Antwerp in 2022. The team, currently ranked 18th, is seeded higher than only Azerbaijan and Madagascar in the tournament. France is ranked fourth, Canada fifth, Japan twelfth, and Ukraine fourteenth.
