Ahead of 2026/2027 BRI Super League, Pieter Huistra Assesses PSS Sleman’s Player Chemistry

PSS Sleman coach Pieter Huistra says his main task before the new season is finding which players work best together. The Dutch coach made the assessment after his team’s final preseason friendly against Persiku Kudus at Maguwoharjo Stadium in Sleman.

The match gave Huistra a clearer view of player combinations and positional suitability. “It is now increasingly clear which players suit which positions. We are also seeing who plays best with whom, and who has synergy. That is of course important,” he said, according to the club’s official website.

Huistra also used the friendly to experiment with positions and rotate players. The process allowed his staff to assess the squad’s overall condition, including fitness levels, endurance and individual performances. He said tactical understanding and on-field chemistry could not develop instantly.

The coach also cautioned that players’ performances naturally fluctuate. “Football players are not robots. One day they play better than another day. It can be different every week,” he said.

PSS Sleman, known as Super Elang Jawa, ended its preseason schedule with a 6-1 victory over Persiku Kudus. The result provided a positive final test while giving the coaching staff material for further evaluation before competitive matches begin in early September. PSS Sleman is scheduled to start away against Bali United at Kapten I Wayan Dipta Stadium in Gianyar, Bali, on Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. local time.
