LeCun, founder of AMI Labs and formerly chief AI scientist at Meta, cited the departure of xAI's founding team and its weak development outlook as key reasons for his assessment. He noted that Musk faces significant challenges in attracting top AI talent due to past treatment of employees. LeCun also suggested that xAI is leasing its substantial data center infrastructure, including the Colossus 1 and 2 centers in Memphis, Tennessee, to other firms like Google and Anthropic. This move, he implied, is a strategy to offset the considerable costs incurred by the company. The AI pioneer expressed skepticism about xAI's ability to compete with established giants such as OpenAI and Anthropic. Furthermore, LeCun raised concerns about the broader AI market, warning of a potential bubble burst driven by escalating costs.
