AKPRIND University Helps Bantul Farmers Turn Waste into Biogas

AKPRIND University is implementing an innovative waste management and IT-based management program for the Reja Mulya Livestock Group in Bantul, Yogyakarta. The initiative focuses on transforming livestock waste into biogas, introducing grass-cutting machinery, and digitizing group management processes.

Led by Suraya, with team members Indri Purwanti and Taufiq Hidayat, the program is part of AKPRIND University's community service efforts. Suraya highlighted the potential of livestock waste as an energy source and a means to reduce environmental pollution. "Livestock waste should not be a problem for farmers. Through biogas technology, waste can be processed into an alternative energy source for daily needs. This way, farmers not only gain a cleaner environment but also save on energy costs," she explained.

In addition to biogas installations, the team introduced grass-cutting machines to assist farmers in preparing feed. This technology is expected to expedite the chopping process, ensure uniform grass size, and save labor. "Most farmers still chop grass manually. The availability of a cutting machine can speed up feed preparation, save energy, and increase farmer productivity. Simple technology like this will greatly assist daily livestock business activities," added Suraya.

The program also emphasizes strengthening group management through an IT-based system. This system will aid in recording member data, livestock populations, production figures, administration, and activity reports. Indri Purwanti noted the importance of robust data management for the growth of livestock groups. "Livestock groups today cannot rely solely on field experience. Administration and data management must also be well-organized. Through an IT-based system, administrators will find it easier to record, monitor, and compile necessary reports for group development," she stated.

Taufiq Hidayat stressed that the adoption of new technology must be accompanied by human resource development. "Good equipment must be matched by user capability. Therefore, we not only hand over the technology but also provide direct training and assistance so that group members can operate, maintain, and develop the technology independently," he said. Slamet Riyanto, the head of the Reja Mulya Livestock Group, acknowledged the program's assistance in addressing the group's needs.
