110 Bridges Built in Riau to Improve Access

A significant infrastructure development initiative has seen 110 "Jembatan Merah Putih Presisi" (Precision Red and White Bridges) constructed across Riau Province, Indonesia, aimed at enhancing access for communities, particularly in areas with limited infrastructure.

The project is part of a larger national effort by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and National Police (Polri) to build and renovate bridges. Nationally, Polri has constructed and renovated 895 such bridges. President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated the development, which also includes 3,000 clean water sources, via an online ceremony from the State Palace.

President Subianto lauded the Polri's efforts, emphasizing that such infrastructure projects represent the state's presence and deliver direct benefits to the public. He stressed the need for attention to development in remote areas to ensure residents far from activity centers have access to infrastructure and a decent quality of life.

During the inauguration, President Subianto connected with various regional police headquarters, including one at a bridge site in Gobah Village, Kampar Regency. Riau Police Chief Inspector General Herry Heryawan reported on the 110 bridges built through collaboration between the Riau Police and local communities. "We are translating the President's directive that every part of the country works to provide real benefits to the community through a joint effort," Heryawan told the President.

The impact of these bridges is already being felt. Raisa Adelia, a 13-year-old student from Gobah Village, shared with the President how the newly improved bridge has eased her commute to school. "Our bridge used to be severely damaged and full of holes. Now, we no longer struggle to go to school because the bridge is good. Thank you, Mr. President, long life and good health always," she said.

In addition to bridges, the Riau Police also conducted the "Ekspedisi Merah Putih Presisi" (Precision Red and White Expedition) leading up to Indonesia's 81st Independence Day. This expedition focused on reaching underserved communities in remote, frontier, and outermost (3T) regions of Riau. The initiative also included mangrove planting and restoration in coastal areas to bolster natural defenses against erosion.
