The selection of Alfredo Gaspar as Flávio Bolsonaro's vice-presidential running mate is a strategic move designed to exploit perceived weaknesses in Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva's government. After failing to secure female candidates from allied parties, Bolsonaro's campaign opted for a "pure PL" ticket, with Gaspar chosen to directly challenge key vulnerabilities of the current administration.

The strategy hinges on three main pillars: public security, the INSS (National Institute of Social Security) fraud scandal, and strengthening the campaign's presence in the Northeast, a traditional PT stronghold. As a career prosecutor and former Secretary of Public Security, Gaspar brings significant technical expertise to the public security agenda, an area identified in polls as a major challenge for the Lula government.

Furthermore, Gaspar's role as rapporteur for the CPI (Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry) into INSS fraud, which investigated undue deductions from retirees' pensions, positions him to amplify opposition narratives against the government. This investigation has also implicated Lula's eldest son, Fábio Luís Lula da Silva, and his former chief of staff, Marco Aurélio Santana Ribeiro, raising further political pressure on the president.
