Altimira Scores First Goal as Sporting CP Defeats Vitória 3-2

Sergi Altimira netted his debut goal for Sporting CP, contributing to his new team's hard-fought 3-2 victory against Vitória de Guimarães in the second round of the Liga Portugal. The win secured crucial points for Sporting at home.

Sporting established a commanding 3-0 lead in the first half. Flávio Gonçalves opened the scoring in the ninth minute, capitalizing on a play initiated by Fotis Ioannidis. Ioannidis then doubled the lead in the 22nd minute, assisted by Geny Catamo. Shortly before halftime, Altimira extended Sporting's advantage with a powerful right-footed shot from outside the box, marking his first goal since transferring from Betis.

However, the second half saw Vitória de Guimarães, featuring defender Óscar Rivas, stage a comeback. The visitors reduced the deficit in the 66th minute through a strike from captain Samu Silva. Three minutes later, Ndoye scored with a header, bringing Vitória within a single goal.

Despite the tense atmosphere at the Estádio José Alvalade, reminiscent of past collapses, Sporting managed to hold on to their lead. The team had squandered a two-goal advantage in their previous match against Estrela da Amadora, drawing 2-2. This time, however, they maintained their composure until the final whistle, securing the three points in Lisbon.
