Amanah VP: No need to cut party's seat allocation in Pakatan Harapan

Datuk Mahfuz Omar, Vice President of Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah), has asserted that there is no justification for reducing the party's seat allocation within the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition for the 16th General Election (PRU16). This statement comes despite Amanah's disappointing performance in the recent Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections.

Mahfuz acknowledged that election results undergo a review process to identify weaknesses and improve strategies, a standard practice for political parties. However, he stressed that this post-election analysis should not be linked to a reduction in the number of seats Amanah will contest. "Other states also saw many parties suffer defeats. So, there is no issue of reducing seat allocation and so on," he told Utusan Malaysia.

He further clarified that seat distribution is a joint decision made by all PH component parties, with Amanah being an integral part of the coalition. "PH will make the decision," Mahfuz stated, indicating that the coalition collectively determines the allocation. In the Johor state election, Amanah fielded 19 candidates but only secured one seat. The Negeri Sembilan election proved even more challenging, with Amanah failing to win any of the nine seats it contested.

These results have raised questions about voter support for Amanah and its standing within PH ahead of the next general election. When asked about speculation that DAP might leave the Unity Government, Mahfuz indicated that no decision has been made by that party.
