Anambra State Governor Bans School Graduation Ceremonies

Anambra State Governor Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has implemented an indefinite ban on graduation ceremonies for kindergarten, primary, and secondary schools across the state. This directive aims to ease the financial strain on parents, who often face significant expenses for these events.

The Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, issued a statement clarifying the ban's scope. It encompasses all graduation-related events, regardless of their designation, such as "graduation," "passing-out," or "crossover" ceremonies, affecting both public and private educational institutions.

However, students concluding their Senior Secondary School (SS3) education are specifically exempted from this ban. For these older students, any graduation ceremonies that schools choose to hold are strictly optional. Furthermore, these optional events must not impose any financial levies or demands on students or their parents.

Commissioner Mefor issued a stern warning, stating that any school found in violation of this directive will face sanctions. These penalties could include the potential closure of the institution, emphasizing the state government's commitment to enforcing the ban.
