Anglican Church Suspends Pastor Over Allegations of Fake Miracles

The Anglican Church, Diocese on the Niger, has taken decisive action by suspending Reverend Ifunanya Maduka, the Vicar of Saint Paul’s Parish in Nteje, Anambra State. The suspension, effective immediately and lasting six months without pay, stems from serious allegations of conducting fake miracles and prophecies.

It has come to our attention, with deep sadness and grave concern, that you have been involved in practices grossly unbecoming of an ordained Priest of the Anglican Church.

According to a suspension letter signed by Bishop Owen Nwokolo, the church received "credible and verifiable reports" indicating that Maduka engaged in orchestrated prophecies. These reports alleged that he induced or paid individuals to participate in staged events, presenting them as genuine divine manifestations. Such practices are considered grossly unbecoming of an ordained priest and a violation of Christian doctrine and Anglican discipline.

Specifically, credible and verifiable reports have been brought before us alleging that you engaged in arranged and manipulated prophecies by involving persons whom you induced or paid for that purpose, while presenting such acts as genuine prophetic manifestations from God.

Adding weight to the allegations, the church stated that Reverend Maduka, when confronted, admitted to engaging in the "unholy practice." The evidence presented raises grave ecclesiastical, moral, and disciplinary concerns, including deception of the faithful, abuse of God's name, and conduct that could be construed as obtaining money under false pretenses. These actions are deemed inconsistent with the sacred responsibilities of a minister of the gospel and have brought dishonor to the church and the name of Christ.

From the evidence available to us, your conduct raises grave ecclesiastical, moral, and disciplinary concerns, including involvement in false prophecy, abuse of the name of God, deception of the faithful and the general public, and conduct capable of amounting to obtaining money under false pretence.

The church emphasized its zero-tolerance policy for such conduct, stressing that it does not condone evil or actions contradicting Christian ethics. The priest's behavior has reportedly caused reproach from the church's adversaries. As part of the suspension, Maduka has been directed to hand over all church properties, records, and funds within four days. A disciplinary panel will be convened within a month to further investigate the matter and determine any additional actions.

Such actions are wholly inconsistent with the calling, character, and sacred responsibilities of an ordained minister of the gospel.
