Anwar rebukes leader for insulting ethnic groups, stresses unity

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has strongly rebuked comments that demean ethnic groups in Malaysia, asserting that no leader should insult other races. Speaking at a school event in Bukit Mertajam, Anwar stressed that Malaysia's foundation, built nearly 70 years ago upon independence, rests on unity and the acceptance of all communities.

Therefore, I absolutely disagree with any notion that insults or sidelines the role of any race in our country.

"Malays, too, the majority are originally from Tanah Melayu, but some also come from Indonesia, some are of Chinese descent, some are of Korean descent, and we cannot dismiss them as non-citizens," Anwar explained. He further highlighted the contributions of Chinese and Indian communities, stating that those loyal to the constitution and good citizens should be embraced as Malaysia's strength.

Anwar's remarks were a direct response to statements made by Pas Election Director Muhammad Sanusi Md. Nor during a rally in Jempol, Negeri Sembilan. Sanusi had reportedly claimed that Malays have only Tanah Melayu as their homeland, while Indians have India and Chinese have China, urging Pas and UMNO to reunite to defend their race and religion.

What more among the Chinese or Indian communities, who are loyal, who accept the Constitution, who are good citizens. All of these must be embraced as Malaysia's strength.
