APC National Secretary Visits Adeleke and Pledges Support for Tinubu in New Political Realignment

Ajibola Basiru, the national secretary of Nigeria’s All Progressives Congress, visited Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke after helping campaign against him, describing the party’s defeat as painful but urging political actors to focus on the state’s unity and progress.

Basiru said he had campaigned extensively for APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji in at least 12 local government areas and had used all available resources to try to secure victory. He nevertheless congratulated Adeleke and said he would work with the governor to build support for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

Basiru gave three reasons for the visit: to thank Adeleke for visiting his family and attending his mother’s burial, to congratulate him on winning re-election, and to acknowledge his endorsement of Tinubu for 2027. He also recalled that Adeleke wore an Agbada matching the clothes Basiru wore at the burial, describing the gesture as one expected of an “Omoluabi.”

The visit followed Oyebamiji’s own congratulations to Adeleke and his pledge to support peace and development in Osun. Oyebamiji also urged the governor to address recent killings in Ikire, in Irewole Local Government Area.

Adeleke, meanwhile, thanked traditional rulers who stood by him during the re-election struggle. The Owa Obokun of Ijeshaland, Oba Adesuyi Haastrup, described the governor’s re-election as “divine judgement,” according to the report.
