Arequipa Gears Up for 'Campeón de Campeones' School Parade; Full Schedule Released

Arequipa, Peru, is gearing up for the "Campeón de Campeones" (Champion of Champions) event, a vibrant school parade that forms a central part of the city's Fiestas Patrias (Independence Day) celebrations. The Regional Directorate of Education (GREA) has released the official schedule for this traditional competition, which brings together school delegations from across the region.

The festivities commence on Friday, July 10, with initial district parades. These will be followed by competitions organized by the Local Educational Management Units (UGEL) of Arequipa Norte and Sur in the subsequent weeks. The "Campeón de Campeones" is one of Arequipa's most emblematic Fiestas Patrias activities, featuring primary and secondary school institutions where students showcase discipline, coordination, and marching prowess.

Top-scoring schools will earn the prestigious opportunity to represent their institutions in the Gran Parada Militar (Grand Military Parade) on July 25. The official calendar outlines district parades for UGEL Arequipa Sur on July 10, and for UGEL Arequipa Norte on July 11 and 12 along Avenida Independencia. The "Campeón de Campeones" contests themselves are scheduled for July 18 (UGEL Arequipa Sur) and July 19 (UGEL Arequipa Norte).

To facilitate these events, municipal authorities in various districts have announced traffic restrictions. The Miraflores District Municipality will implement a total road closure on July 10, while Alto Selva Alegre will reroute traffic on July 11 and 12 due to parades on Avenida Arequipa.
