Argentina creates national mandatory system to track veterinary products

Argentina's government is digitizing its sanitary controls with the creation of the Integrated System for Traceability of Veterinary Products of the Argentine Republic (Sigtrazavet). This new platform will meticulously track veterinary medicines and active ingredients from their production or import through to their final use by veterinarians or consumers.

The measure, formalized by Senasa through Resolution 654/2026, represents a significant advancement in the control of veterinary products. Its primary objectives are to bolster traceability, refine oversight, digitize processes, and enhance sanitary security. This is crucial for both animal production and access to international markets.

Sigtrazavet will officially serve as the system for registering, monitoring, and controlling the entire supply chain of veterinary products and active ingredients. Its use will be mandatory nationwide for all individuals and legal entities involved in the import, export, manufacturing, packaging, distribution, sale, storage, prescription, or possession of Senasa-registered veterinary products, as well as those handling active ingredients for their production.

The system will identify all stakeholders via their CUIT (tax identification number), geolocate storage facilities, track product circulation, and integrate data from the Electronic Veterinary Prescription (RVE). The RVE will become the mandatory tool for prescribing, acquiring, and administering veterinary products for food-producing animals, equines, and companion animals, issued exclusively by a licensed veterinarian.
