Argentina Reports Record Cocaine Seizures in 2025

Argentina has achieved a historic milestone in its fight against drug trafficking, as reported by Chief of Cabinet Manuel Adorni. In 2025, the nation set a new record for cocaine seizures, confiscating an impressive 13,476 kilograms. This figure not only signifies a 14% increase from the previous year but also surpasses the previous record established in 2017, demonstrating a significant intensification of anti-narcotics efforts.

The Ministry of National Security further detailed that alongside the record cocaine haul, authorities also seized substantial quantities of other illicit substances, including 114,367 kilograms of marijuana and 495,091 units of synthetic drugs. The combined cocaine seizures over the past two years now exceed 25,000 kilograms, a figure greater than the total confiscated between 2020 and 2023. Notably, Buenos Aires province alone saw a staggering 257% increase in cocaine seizures in 2025.

These successes are attributed to the intensified operations of federal security forces. In 2025, there were 28,004 anti-drug procedures, a 9% increase from the prior year, leading to the arrest of 28,676 individuals for drug-related offenses. This surge in enforcement activity underscores the government's commitment to dismantling drug networks and curbing the flow of illegal substances.

Minister of Security Alejandra Monteoliva, alongside Adorni, recently oversaw the destruction of over 800 kilograms of confiscated cocaine, marijuana, and synthetic drugs, along with more than 1,800 kilograms of chemical precursors. The estimated street value of the incinerated drugs exceeds 4 billion pesos, representing a direct blow to the financial resources of criminal organizations. This comprehensive approach, from investigation and seizure to destruction, reflects Argentina's resolute stance against the pervasive threat of drug trafficking.
