Argentina's 'Kamikazes' make history, secure first world gold

Argentina's women's beach handball team, known as "Las Kamikazes," made history by clinching their first-ever world championship title. They triumphed over Denmark with a 2-1 victory in a thrilling final match at the World Championship in Croatia. The decisive moments came during a "shoot-out" tiebreaker, where the precision of Gisella Bonomi, Zoe Turnes, who was named the tournament's best player, and Lucila Balsas secured the win.

This historic achievement marks a significant milestone for the team, led by coach Leticia Brunati. It serves as redemption after their loss in the previous year's final against Germany in China. The Argentine squad demonstrated strong performance throughout the tournament, winning the first set 20-14, before Denmark forced a "shoot-out" by taking the second set 14-27.

In the "shoot-out" round, the Argentine team proved more composed, outscoring Denmark 6-2. This victory crowns them the new queens of world beach handball. The success was not limited to the women's team; the Argentine men's national team also earned a bronze medal.

The men's team secured third place by defeating the host nation, Croatia, 2-1 in a closely contested match that also went to a "shoot-out," with Francisco Müller scoring the final winning point. Additionally, Nahuel Baptista and Lucas Coronel were recognized for their outstanding performances, being named to the ideal team as best left wing and best specialist, respectively.
