Asantehene Commends Police Special Operations Team for 445 Arrests

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has lauded the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) and his Special Operations Team (SOT) for their significant contributions to crime reduction and maintaining peace in Ghana. The commendation came during a courtesy call by the Ashanti Regional Police Command and the SOT at the Manhyia Palace.

Commissioner of Police (COP) Arthur Osei Akoto formally introduced the SOT, highlighting its role in strengthening intelligence-led policing and enhancing public safety. Otumfuo Osei Tutu II acknowledged the team's success in curbing drug trafficking, robbery, and human trafficking, stating that their operations have notably improved security in the Ashanti Region.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II observed that the sustained intelligence-led operations undertaken by the Special Operations Team have contributed significantly to improving security in the Ashanti Region, particularly through the reduction of drug trafficking, robbery, human trafficking and other criminal activities.

The Asantehene urged the officers to maintain their steadfastness, discipline, and professionalism, emphasizing the noble nature of policing which demands dedication and integrity. He also advised them to prioritize their personal safety during their lawful duties.

The Director of the IGP Special Operations Team expressed gratitude for the encouragement and pledged to continue intelligence-led operations to protect lives and property. The team reported arresting 445 suspects of diverse nationalities, including 294 Ghanaians, 136 Nigerians, 11 Malians, and four Togolese. These arrests target major narcotics suppliers, distributors, drug peddlers, users, human traffickers, and individuals linked to organized criminal networks. Over 100 suspects are currently facing trial, with others under investigation or out on bail.
