Asian Nations Arrest Hundreds in Crackdown on Child Sexual Abuse Material; Teenagers Make Up Majority of Suspects

A coordinated international effort has yielded significant results in the fight against child sexual exploitation online. Police forces across seven Asian nations, including South Korea, have successfully apprehended hundreds of individuals involved in the production, distribution, and possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM). This operation, codenamed 'Cyber Guardian,' underscores the growing threat of digital exploitation and the necessity of cross-border collaboration.

The statistics revealed by the National Police Agency's National Investigation Headquarters are particularly alarming. Out of the 445 individuals arrested across the participating countries, South Korean police alone accounted for 225 arrests. More disturbingly, approximately 60% of all suspects were found to be teenagers. This highlights a critical trend: the increasing prevalence of 'peer-to-peer' crimes within adolescent online communities, where perpetrators and victims are often of similar ages.
