At G20 session, Poland’s finance minister names economic growth as the country’s overriding political goal

Poland’s finance and economy minister, Andrzej Domański, used a G20 growth session in Asheville to present economic expansion as the priority guiding all other policies in Warsaw.

“Economic growth is the overriding goal of all other policies,” Domański said. He described Poland as one of the European Union’s fastest-growing economies and said it would rank among the leading-growing G20 countries.

Domański also portrayed Poland as a case of successful political and economic transformation, moving from a centrally planned economy valued at $60 billion to a market economy worth more than $1 trillion. He cited deregulation as another example for other countries.

Poland is now one of the leaders of economic growth. We are growing almost the fastest in the entire EU and we will be at the forefront of growth among G20 countries.

The minister set out three priorities for the G20. The first was removing barriers to business and investment through simpler, more predictable rules. The second was a pragmatic energy transition that protects competitiveness and industrial development. The third was investment in human capital, especially digital technology, artificial intelligence and STEM fields.

During the meeting, Domański held talks with British Treasury Chancellor John Healey, French Finance Minister Roland Lescure and Saudi Finance Minister Mohammed Al-Jadaan. He also met World Bank President Ajay Banga and International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva. Poland is seeking an invitation to participate in G20 work next year, when Britain is due to take over the group’s presidency from the United States in December.
