Athletics: Daniel Ståhl's historic win in Helsinki, departs Finland immediately

Swedish discus thrower Daniel Ståhl achieved a historic 13th consecutive victory in the annual Sweden-Finland athletics match held in Helsinki's Olympic Stadium. Ståhl secured the win with a throw of 69.06 meters, a performance he described as "good" despite not reaching his season's best of 69.85 meters.

This year has been a bit up and down, but I managed to throw over 69 meters, so that's good.

Ståhl, who has Finnish roots on his mother's side, expressed his deep affection for competing in Finland. "I like competing in Finland. I understand the Finnish language and Finnish culture. I like it immensely. Finland is very close to my heart," he shared, highlighting the personal significance of the event for him.

Despite the tight schedule, Ståhl emphasized his commitment to the Sweden-Finland match, noting that his flight to Switzerland for another competition departs shortly after his event concludes. "I want to participate in the international match, even though the schedule is tight. The most important thing is to get points for Sweden," Ståhl stated.

Following his victory, Ståhl is heading directly to Switzerland for a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver competition on Sunday. He mentioned that many top discus throwers, excluding European champion Kristjan Ceh, will be participating, and he aims to do his best in the event.
