Attempt to enter by 34 undocumented migrants fails, boat intercepted by authorities

Malaysian authorities successfully intercepted a boat attempting to smuggle 34 undocumented migrants into the country via the sea route near Teluk Frigi beach. The operation, a joint effort between the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) and the General Operations Force (PGA), thwarted the illegal entry attempt on August 8.

According to MMEA Perak Director Captain Maritim Mohamad Shukri Khotob, MMEA assets KM Nusa and Boat Penggalang 1639 detected the suspected vessel moving towards Teluk Frigi beach in the dark. Upon realizing they were being pursued by law enforcement, the boat's occupants attempted to flee towards the shore.

The operation proves the effectiveness of cooperation and integrated action between Maritim Malaysia and PGA in curbing attempts by undocumented migrants and cross-border activities via sea routes.

At approximately 5 a.m., the PGA ground team, stationed at the location, moved swiftly to apprehend the 34 individuals as the boat reached the beach. The group consisted of 22 men and 12 women. They have since been handed over to the PGA for further legal processing.

Captain Mohamad Shukri emphasized the effectiveness of the integrated cooperation between the MMEA and PGA in curbing illegal cross-border activities, particularly the smuggling of migrants. He affirmed the MMEA's commitment to strengthening enforcement and monitoring in the nation's waters to prevent unlawful cross-border activities.
