Attorney Detained After Fatal Highway Crash, Accused of Fleeing Scene

An attorney, identified as Andrés Prieto, is in custody and facing charges including vehicular homicide and serious injury following a fatal collision on the Panamericana highway. The incident resulted in the death of a ride-share driver and left a passenger with severe injuries.

Prieto, 37, is accused of fleeing the scene of the accident, which occurred early last Saturday near kilometer 17 of the Panamericana highway. The victim, 31-year-old Ivonne Pamela Escobar Camacho, was driving for a ride-sharing service and had stopped her vehicle with hazard lights on when it was struck from behind by Prieto's car.

This action has led prosecutor Carolina Asprella to charge him with "frustrating evidentiary measures."

Prieto's arrest came after a coordinated police operation in Palermo and San Isidro. He was apprehended in Palermo while accompanied by his mother, Lidia María Fasano, a former Family Court judge in San Isidro, and his brother.
