Awami League members jailed under anti-terror law over August 15 meeting

A Dhaka court ordered 52 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations to jail on Tuesday. They face charges under the Anti-Terrorism Act for an alleged gathering in the capital's Bhatara area. The group was reportedly holding a preparatory meeting for a flash procession ahead of August 15, a significant date in Bangladesh's history.

Police arrested the accused from a flat in the Bashundhara Residential Area on Monday evening. Authorities claim the group was planning acts of sabotage and terrorism. Three banners were seized during the operation, announcing a discussion meeting and prayer gathering to mark August 15.

In addition to the 52 adults, two minors were produced before the Juvenile Court and sent to the Children Development Centre in Gazipur. The case was filed at the Bhatara Police Station on Tuesday. The court ordered the detention of the accused after police presented them and requested their custody.
