Banamex Announces Ignacio Deschamps' Departure; Former Executive Says "Mission Accomplished"

Ignacio Deschamps has stepped down as a member and chairman of the Board of Directors of Grupo Financiero Banamex and Banco Nacional de México, concluding his service effective July 29, 2026. Deschamps' departure marks the end of a significant period for the institution, particularly following its separation from Citi Mexico.

Appointed to the boards in February 2024, Deschamps took on the chairmanship in December of that year. He continued to lead the board of Banco Nacional de México even after Fernando Chico Pardo became the reference shareholder and chairman of the financial group's board in December 2025. During his leadership, Deschamps played a key role in enhancing the bank's corporate governance, driving technological advancements, and bolstering the executive team to support Banamex's strategic plan.

Fernando Chico Pardo, chairman of Grupo Financiero Banamex, expressed gratitude for Deschamps' leadership, strategic vision, and commitment during this crucial phase. "I deeply appreciate Nacho Deschamps' leadership, strategic vision, and commitment during this very relevant stage of our institution. His participation contributed to the continuity of our objectives and the promotion of our corporate governance," Chico Pardo stated.

Ernesto Torres Cantú, Citi's international director, also acknowledged Deschamps' contributions to Banamex's transition process after its separation from Citi Mexico. Deschamps himself expressed satisfaction with his tenure, stating, "I leave with the feeling of a mission accomplished. I am very excited to see Banamex growing with more ambition than the market and successfully executing its business plan and technological modernization." He indicated plans to pursue advisory roles in technology and operations within the financial sector.
