Banco Master Case Influences Voter Decisions, Brazilian Poll Finds

A recent survey by the Brazilian research institute Indexa Pesquisas reveals that a significant portion of the electorate is hesitant to support candidates involved in the Banco Master investigation. The poll found that 38% of voters are less likely to vote for a candidate with political or personal ties to individuals investigated in the case.

In contrast, 35% of respondents indicated that the Banco Master scandal has no bearing on their voting decisions. A small minority, just 3%, reported feeling more inclined to vote for candidates connected to the investigation. The remaining 24% were undecided or did not offer an opinion. The survey was conducted via telephone interviews with 2,000 people between July 16 and 19, carrying a margin of error of 2.2 percentage points.

Further analysis of the data shows regional and political variations in the case's influence. The Southeast and Northeast regions reported the least impact, with 36% stating the case does not affect their vote. In the South, there was an even split, with 30% saying the scandal influences their vote significantly or somewhat, and another 30% claiming it has no effect. The North region showed the highest level of unfamiliarity with the case, with 16% not having heard of Banco Master.

Politically, non-Bolsonarist right-wing voters were most likely to state the case does not interfere with their vote (41%), followed by Bolsonaristas (32%) and PT supporters (38%). However, 36% of centrist voters reported that the case influences their decision either significantly or somewhat, compared to 28% of PT supporters and 24% of Bolsonaristas. Bolsonaristas also showed the highest rate of unawareness regarding the investigations (20%).
