Bandits abduct Zamfara LG chairman, kill four security personnel

Bandits have abducted Nura Abdullahi, the chairman of Bungudu Local Government Area in Zamfara State, Nigeria, following a pre-dawn attack on his residence. The assailants, reportedly numbering in the large, also killed four members of Abdullahi's security detail, comprising two police officers and two local vigilantes, according to local sources.

The attackers invaded Abdullahi's home, engaging his security guards in a fierce gun battle before abducting him, his wife, and their children. Despite the efforts of the security personnel to repel the invaders, the bandits managed to escape into the surrounding forest with their captives. The incident has prompted a significant response from security forces.

Troops from Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intensified their search and rescue operations for the abducted chairman. Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, Media Information Officer for the Joint Task Force (North West), stated that the terrorists overpowered the chairman's security detail before the abduction. During the troops' intervention, which followed gunshots, the terrorists abandoned five family members, including two children, the chairman's mother, wife, and a relative, who were successfully rescued.

The attack resulted in the deaths of two police officers and one local vigilante, along with one civilian. The chairman's elder brother, Alhaji Bello Umar, sustained injuries. In response, the Theatre Command has deployed all available resources and is coordinating a comprehensive rescue operation involving the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services, and local vigilantes to locate and safely return the chairman.
