Barnim District Administrator Election: Runoff Set Between SPD and AfD

The district of Barnim in Brandenburg is heading for a decisive runoff election for its district administrator position, setting up a direct contest between the Social Democratic Party (SPD) and the Alternative for Germany (AfD). Incumbent Daniel Kurth of the SPD emerged as the frontrunner in the initial vote, securing 40.9% of the ballots cast. However, his failure to reach the crucial 50% threshold means he must face AfD candidate Matthäus Mikolaszek, who garnered a significant 30% of the vote, in a second round.
