Bauchi Governor Declares Monday Work-Free for Local Polls

Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has declared August 17, 2026, a work-free day across the state. This move aims to allow civil servants, public servants, and even banking sector employees to participate in the upcoming local government council elections. The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) set the election date for the same Monday.

The government stated the holiday is intended to ensure eligible citizens can exercise their constitutional right to vote without work disruptions. However, workers in essential services are excluded from this declaration. The government also called for peaceful participation and responsible conduct from all residents during the electoral process.

Governor Mohammed assured citizens that authorities would ensure a peaceful and orderly environment for the elections. He urged cooperation with security and electoral officials, wishing the state a successful and peaceful election day.
