Benito Juárez housing complex catches fire; emergency services respond

An electrical fire erupted in the Benito Juárez mayor's office, drawing a swift response from emergency services on Thursday morning. The incident occurred at the Centro Urbano Presidente Alemán housing complex, specifically in building A, on Eje 7 Sur Félix Cuevas at the intersection with Eje 3 Poniente Avenida Coyoacán.

Residents reported a short circuit and visible sparks and popping sounds emanating from the electrical wiring. A thick column of black smoke billowed from the building, prompting the precautionary evacuation of residents from the affected building while firefighters worked to control and extinguish the blaze.

After an inspection, authorities determined that a short circuit in the electrical installation had caused the fire. Emergency medical personnel from Civil Protection assessed two individuals, both around 25 years old, who suffered from carbon monoxide poisoning. Their conditions were stable, and they were not transported to a hospital.

Firefighters and other rescue teams conducted a post-emergency inspection of the building to rule out further risks. The operation concluded without any other reported injuries, and emergency services departed the scene once the situation was fully under control.
