Benito Juárez mayor's office and Segiagua address sinkhole and water leak in Ermita neighborhood

Authorities in Mexico City are responding to a significant infrastructure issue in the Ermita Iztapalapa area, where a sinkhole has caused a water leak and damaged the drainage system. The Benito Juárez mayor's office, in coordination with the Secretariat of Integral Water Management (Segiagua), is leading the repair efforts.

The sinkhole, located near the intersection of Calzada Ermita Iztapalapa and Plutarco Elías Calles, measures approximately four meters in length and 2.5 meters in depth. Since Tuesday evening, personnel from both agencies have been working diligently to address the situation. The immediate water leak has been resolved through pipe replacement, but work continues on the fractured drainage network.

Edgar Santiago, head of the Hydraulic Operation and Sanitation Unit, stated that the repairs are being conducted under the instructions of Mayor Luis Mendoza to minimize disruption to local residents. "We hope that the water service can be restored for the neighbors. All these works are in coordination with Segiagua under the instructions of our mayor Luis Mendoza so that the neighbors do not suffer any damage," Santiago said.

Officials anticipate that the repair work will be completed in the coming hours. The primary goal is to prevent further complications and ensure the safety and convenience of the residents in the affected neighborhood. The timely response aims to restore essential services and repair the damaged infrastructure.
