Bersatu Suffers Heavy Losses in Negeri Sembilan Election, Most Candidates Forfeit Deposits

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) faced a significant setback in the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election, losing the majority of its deposits. A total of 23 out of its 24 candidates failed to garner at least one-eighth of the total votes counted, resulting in the forfeiture of their election deposits.

This electoral performance also saw Bersatu failing to secure any seats in the state assembly. The party lost its sole existing seat, the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) of Labu, marking a complete loss of representation in Negeri Sembilan. In total, 30 candidates from various parties and independent runners also lost their deposits.

Among the candidates who lost deposits, those aged between 41 and 50 years old represented the largest group, accounting for 36.11 percent of the total. This age bracket saw 13 candidates forfeit their deposits out of 36 in that category.

The election results showed a strong performance by Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN), who collectively won 25 out of the 36 contested DUN seats. Pakatan Harapan (PH) secured 11 seats. Other parties, including Parti Orang Asli Malaysia (Asli) and Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), also saw their sole candidates lose their deposits.
